Summary

Odyssey Preparatory Charter Academy is a K-5 charter school in Palm Bay, FL, serving 462 students within the Brevard school district, and it has consistently earned a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating solid, above-average performance.

Odyssey stands out for its strong performance in English Language Arts (ELA) and Science, often exceeding district averages. For example, its 4th-grade ELA proficiency (68%) was 7 points above the district average (61%). However, math is a clear area of concern, with proficiency rates in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades all falling below the district average. This is a stark contrast to nearby Riviera Elementary School and Pineapple Cove Classical Academy At Lockmar, which generally outperform the district in math. Interestingly, Odyssey achieves these results with significantly lower per-student spending ($9,808) compared to traditional public schools like Port Malabar Elementary School ($13,527) and Christa McAuliffe Elementary School ($12,603), suggesting a high level of operational efficiency.

A notable trend is the school's declining free/reduced lunch population, which dropped from 57.86% in 2022-2023 to 42.64% in 2024-2025—a much lower rate than many nearby schools like Jupiter Elementary School (64.14%) and John F. Turner Senior Elementary School (72.17%). Despite a chronic absenteeism rate (23.1%) that is higher than the district average (21.1%), the school still manages to achieve above-average test scores. However, a "5th grade slump" is evident, with math proficiency dropping sharply from 78% in 3rd grade to 43% in 5th grade in 2023-2024. After years of steady improvement, Odyssey's state ranking has declined for three consecutive years, from the 66th percentile in 2021-2022 to the 53rd percentile in 2025-2026, a trend worth monitoring.

Open Quote Odyssey Preparatory Academy continues to educate students to reach their full potential in all areas - intellectually, physically, emotionally, spiritually and socially. Our students and teachers did an excellent job in 2018-2019 digging into learning and teaching - with the school only one percentage point from a school grade of "A". Great work Olympians!
