Campus Community School

Summary:

Campus Community School is a public charter elementary and middle school located in Dover, Delaware, serving grades K-8 with a total enrollment of 402 students. The school has a diverse student population, with 59.7% African American, 22.89% White, 6.72% Hispanic, and 2.24% Asian students.

While Campus Community School's academic performance, as measured by state assessments, is generally below the state averages across various grade levels and subject areas, the school's African American students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds have consistently ranked in the top 10-27 out of 60-66 Delaware elementary schools in recent years, indicating relatively strong performance within these subgroups compared to the state. However, the school has experienced higher rates of chronic absenteeism compared to the state average, ranging from 9.5% in 2018-2019 to 22.9% in 2020-2021, which may be impacting the school's overall academic performance.

When comparing Campus Community School to the nearby schools in the Caesar Rodney and Capital School Districts, such as W.B. Simpson Elementary and Booker T. Washington Elementary, the nearby schools generally outperform Campus Community School on academic assessments, with higher proficiency rates in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. This suggests that the surrounding schools may have more effective instructional practices or resources that contribute to their stronger academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Campus Community School bases the education, students discipline, teachers, and the people who are hired into administration on who is in the administrations little "group." Not to mention the education, especially in the middle school, is poor. Close Quote

Open Quote Campus used to be a very good school. At one time they were Superior in the ratings. As new administration took over and a new Board elected the quality diminished. They are now on Academic Review. The teachers are astounding! I can not say enough about the teachers but unfortunately without good leadership this school will fail in my opinion. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
