The challenges facing Crosby High School are reflective of broader issues within the Waterbury School District. The other high schools in the district, such as Wilby High School and John F. Kennedy High School, also perform poorly on academic metrics and have similar challenges with low graduation rates and high chronic absenteeism. However, the district's magnet schools, such as Waterbury Career Academy and Waterbury Arts Magnet School, perform significantly better, suggesting that the magnet school model may be more effective in supporting student achievement within the district.

Open Quote I was the first graduating class to spend the first four years in the new facility at Crosby High School,300 Pierpont RD in Waterbury Ct. The year was 1978 and my years at Crosby were awesome. We had our problems with marijuana and some other drugs, but nothing like today. Rock and Disco were going against each other with Bohimean Rhaphsody going head to head with Rock the Boat and the blue Jean era going against the Club dress. It was the time of sneaking into nightclubs on a Thursday and being too tired to concentrate the day after. The school play that year was TWO GENTLEMEN OF CORONA. It was a great time to be young and graduating into a brave New world, and Crosby H.S was in the center of our lives. Close Quote
