Overall, this is a high-performing and relatively affluent district, ranking 45th out of 153 Connecticut districts with a 4-star rating, and it exceeds state proficiency averages in nearly every subject and grade level.

The standout school is Somers High School, which ranks an impressive 18th out of 133 high schools statewide (86th percentile). It boasts a 98.9% graduation rate and exceptionally strong test scores, with 79.2% of 11th-graders proficient in ELA and 80.2% proficient in science—far above state averages. Its relative weak spot is math, where 45.5% proficiency is still above the state average but lower than its other subjects. Equally notable is Mabelle B. Avery Middle School, the district's most improved school. It jumped to 45th out of 258 middle schools statewide, driven by extraordinary one-year gains in 8th-grade math (from 35.1% to 63.1% proficiency) and science (from 48.2% to 68.0%).

Somers Elementary School is the district's largest school and its relative weak point, ranking 174th out of 491 elementary schools (3 stars). However, it is steadily improving and still posts proficiency rates well above state averages in every grade and subject, including a remarkable jump in 5th-grade math to 69.1%. The district overall invests heavily in its students, with low student-teacher ratios (as low as 7.7 at the high school) and high per-student spending, alongside very low chronic absenteeism and poverty rates. The clearest academic challenge for the district is high school math, which remains an area for strategic focus even as the rest of the district's outcomes are excellent.
