Summary:

Bethany, Connecticut is served by two small, high-performing public schools — Bethany Community School (PK–6) and Amity Middle School: Bethany (7–8) — that together educate roughly 803 students in a well-resourced, low-poverty community with no local high school, sending students to regional schools for grades 9–12. Both schools benefit from low poverty rates, with free/reduced lunch eligibility at just 12.8% and 17.7%, very low chronic absenteeism (3.9% and 4.9% versus the 16.4% state average), high per-student spending, and favorable student–teacher ratios.

Amity Middle School: Bethany is the district's clear academic leader. It holds a 5-star rating and ranks 10th out of 258 Connecticut middle schools — the 96th percentile — with both ELA (79.3%) and math (75.4%) proficiency far above state averages. Its math scores are especially notable, exceeding the state by more than 32 percentage points. Bethany Community School is also strong, holding a 4-star rating and ranking 111th out of 491 elementary schools (77th percentile), with ELA proficiency at 74.3% and math at 64.3% — both well above state levels. However, it has slipped from a 5-star, 90th-percentile ranking in 2023–2024.

Within these strong results, a few patterns stand out. Bethany Community School shows a consistent 5th-grade math weakness (54.2% proficiency in 2025–2026), well below its other grade levels. At Amity Middle, 8th graders score noticeably lower than 7th graders, particularly in math. Amity Middle also outperforms its own Regional School District 05 averages, making the Bethany campus one of the strongest in the district. The Bethany School District is effectively just the elementary school, so its scores mirror those of Bethany Community School exactly. With no high school in town, Bethany students transition elsewhere after 8th grade, but the academic foundation built through these two strong schools leaves them exceptionally well prepared.
