Centennial School

Centennial School is a small, alternative public school in San Luis, Colorado, serving 186 students in grades PK–12 as the only school in the Centennial School District No. R-1 in a remote rural area. The school serves a highly economically disadvantaged population (91.4% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch), but it also offers notably small class sizes with a 12.1:1 student-teacher ratio. The nearest comparable school is Sierra Grande K-12 School, located about 15.6 miles away in Blanca, which serves 307 students and has a lower poverty rate (79.15%).

However, the persistent chronic absenteeism crisis is the single biggest barrier to sustained success, and as a single-school district with no larger district infrastructure nearby, Centennial likely depends heavily on targeted community and state support to keep these gains going.
