Compass Montessori - Golden Charter School

Summary:

Compass Montessori - Golden Charter School is a public charter school in Golden, Colorado, serving students from preschool through 12th grade. With a student population of 424, the school is part of the Jefferson County School District, which is ranked 35th out of 116 districts in the state.

While Compass Montessori - Golden generally performs below the district and state averages in CMAS assessments for English Language Arts, Math, and Science, the school's proficiency rates on SAT and PSAT tests for 11th and 10th graders often exceed the district and state averages. However, the school's performance is particularly low in 8th grade ELA (15.8% proficient) and 7th/8th grade Math (around 16-20% proficient). Compass Montessori - Golden also has a relatively high student-teacher ratio compared to nearby schools, which may contribute to its academic challenges.

When compared to other charter schools in the area, such as Golden View Classical Academy and Jefferson Academy, Compass Montessori - Golden's performance is generally lower, with these schools having higher proficiency rates in CMAS assessments and lower student-teacher ratios. Additionally, the school's student population is less diverse compared to some nearby schools, such as Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy and Doral Academy of Colorado, which have higher percentages of Hispanic and African American students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Too much play time. Going on hikes and then having recesses. Not enough time on instruction of core curriculum. Seems like whatever the teacher dreams up and labels as Montessori goes. Noticed teachers and school advisors scoffing at required tests from outside sources. Very concerned child will not perform well on high school tests that influence college admissions.
Principle seems more concerned about keeping teachers from complaining instead of educational leadership preparing students for admission into good colleges and perform well while there.

As far as treating the parents as partners, their idea of parental involvement seems to be leave the teaching to me and you do my grunt work and bring in snacks. Parents volunteer for bingo because we are tracking your volunteer hours.

Made requests concerning my child. My requests were denied for what appeared to be imperial reasons.

This school is basically just average concerning core competencies. I think there should be less hype and more real action toward education in this school. If you want your child to get good test scores for college entrance purposes, this school may not be the one to get the job done. Close Quote

Open Quote They have a beautiful environment (inside and out). The kids were very engrossed in their studies or chores and were respectful of all. I would highly recommend this program to anyone seeking a true Montessori education. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
