Summary

Dakota Ridge Senior High School is a large comprehensive high school in Littleton, CO, serving approximately 1,277 students in grades 9–12 as part of Jefferson County School District R-1. The school currently holds a 3-star rating and ranks 119th out of 338 Colorado high schools, placing it in the 65th percentile statewide. That marks a step back from recent years, when it ranked in the 81st percentile in 2022–23 and the 87th percentile in 2018–19.

Dakota Ridge's standout strengths are its graduation rate and literacy results. The school has maintained a graduation rate around 94% for five consecutive years, well above the district (86.7%) and state (85.6%) averages, while dropout rates sit at just 0.9%. In reading and writing, the school performs at or above district levels and comfortably above state averages: 70% of 11th graders scored proficient on SAT Reading/Writing, matching the district and besting the state's 60%. Math is the biggest academic weakness, however. Only 35% of 11th graders scored proficient on SAT Math, below the district's 42% and a sharp decline from 52% in 2022–23.

Among nearby schools, Dakota Ridge sits in the middle tier. It clearly trails the elite D'Evelyn Junior/Senior High School (99% SAT reading, 96% math) and the high-performing Chatfield High School (81% reading, 54% math), but it is competitive with Green Mountain High School and Columbine High School, and ahead of Bear Creek High School. One growing concern is chronic absenteeism, which jumped from 24.2% to 30.4% in one year, now above both district (26.6%) and state (28.4%) averages. The school serves Hispanic and low-income students well compared with statewide peer groups, though support for disabled and gifted/talented students has room for improvement.

Open Quote Two of my children have gone/are attending DRHS. It's a great school with a wonderful balance of academics, sports and a warm sense of community. The kids have learned to be self-sufficient and are well prepared for life after HS. Close Quote
