Summary

Evergreen Middle School serves 478 students in grades 6–8 in Evergreen, Colorado, a mountain community west of Denver, as part of the Jefferson County School District R-1. The school has a long track record of strong academic performance, earning top rankings on SchoolDigger in nearly every year since 2015–2016. In the most recent ranking year (2025–2026), Evergreen Middle School ranked 51st out of 469 Colorado middle schools, placing it in the 89th percentile statewide. Its student body is relatively economically advantaged, with only 12.55% of students eligible for free/reduced lunch, one of the lowest rates among nearby schools.

Academically, Evergreen outpaces district and state averages by wide margins. On the 2025–2026 CMAS assessments, 64.9% of students were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to 53.7% for the district and 44.7% for the state. In math, 61.2% were proficient versus 44.6% district and 37.3% state, and in 8th-grade science, 68.1% were proficient versus 42.7% district and 35.4% state. Neighboring Manning Options School posts slightly higher ELA and math scores, but Evergreen leads in 8th-grade science, and Evergreen also outperforms Bradford K8 North in math and science. Chronic absenteeism sits at 19.8%, better than the district (26.6%) and state (28.4%), but noticeably higher than top peers like Bradford and Manning.

The data also reveal areas worth attention. Most notable is a sharp drop from 7th to 8th grade: 7th-grade ELA proficiency was 77.4% and math was 74.6%, but by 8th grade those figures fall to 53.4% and 47.4%, respectively—a 27-point decline in ELA that stands out among neighboring schools. Additionally, while Evergreen elevates most students, its gifted and talented students have slipped from the 87th percentile to the 55th percentile statewide over the past two years. Still, with a low-poverty student body, essentially zero dropout rates, and a strong academic foundation, Evergreen remains one of the top middle schools in the area, with clear capacity to address these challenges and re-establish itself in the highest echelon of Colorado middle schools.
