Summary

Bear Creek K-8 School is a public elementary and middle school located in Lakewood, Colorado, serving 925 students from kindergarten through 8th grade. While the school is part of the highly-ranked Jefferson County School District No. R-1, Bear Creek K-8 has consistently underperformed compared to its peers in the district.

According to the key insights, Bear Creek K-8 School ranks in the bottom half of Colorado elementary schools, with significantly lower proficiency rates on CMAS tests across all grade levels and subject areas, particularly in Math. The school also faces challenges with high dropout rates and chronic absenteeism. Interestingly, nearby schools in the same district, such as Devinny Elementary, Rooney Ranch Elementary, and Kendrick Lakes Elementary, significantly outperform Bear Creek K-8 on academic measures and have lower rates of chronic absenteeism.

The insights suggest that the high percentage of students from low-income families at Bear Creek K-8 may be a contributing factor to the school's lower academic performance, as research has shown that socioeconomic status can be a significant factor in student achievement. The school and district may have opportunities to implement targeted interventions and support programs to address the specific needs of the Bear Creek K-8 student population and improve overall student outcomes.

Open Quote We have three kids currently attending Bear Creek K8, and one who moved up to the high school two years ago. In the 10+ years that we have been involved with the bear creek community (so far) I have to say that, for the most part, we are very happy. MOST of the staff truly want to be there and really care, but there have been a couple that we didn't care for. The key here is to be involved and informed. As a parent, you have to be doing your part by checking folders, checking your students' work and using your resources to be engaged. Close Quote
