Summary

Winograd K-8 Elementary School is a public school in Greeley, Colorado, serving students from kindergarten through 8th grade. The school is part of the Greeley School District No. 6, which is ranked 100 out of 115 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Winograd K-8 has seen a decline in its statewide ranking over the past decade, dropping from a high of 206 out of 938 Colorado elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 650 out of 950 in the most recent 2024-2025 school year. The school consistently underperforms the district and state averages in CMAS test scores, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts (34.5%) and Math (22.4%) significantly lower than the district (28.9% and 19.8%) and state (44.8% and 35.9%) in 2024-2025. Additionally, Winograd K-8 struggles to support its diverse student population, with the school's rankings for various subgroups, such as female, male, and Hispanic students, all in the bottom half of Colorado elementary schools.

Compared to nearby schools like Tointon Academy of Pre-Engineering and West Ridge Academy, which have significantly higher test scores and statewide rankings, Winograd K-8 faces significant challenges. The school's high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 25% to 34.4% in recent years, and a high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, from 61.76% to 72.39%, may be contributing factors to its poor academic performance. Addressing these underlying issues could be crucial in improving student outcomes at Winograd K-8 Elementary School.

Open Quote I feel that Winograd has been the best schooling experience for my children. I moved my oldest to Winograd at a pivotal point right before middle school and my youngest started out there from Kindergarten. The teachers and administrators are focused on the success of each child. My children are thriving and happy and it was a complete turn around from the prior school for my oldest. They hold kiss accountable for their actions, teach values such as respect and compassion , I believe that's what's missing from other schools. They recognize students for achievement and help them when they are struggling. I really feel like it's a no kid left behind kind of environment. Close Quote

Open Quote Check out the statistics on this school! Something is happening here! One of the highest rates of free and reduced lunch students- that equates to low socio economics within the student body. The highest test scores and achievement scores in the county! This is a rare in our present school system. Usually the higher achieving schools are charter schools with hand picked students who families can afford the "trappings". This is a public school with these incredible scores??? Start asking questions???? Close Quote
