Summary

Rocky Mountain Prep Ruby Hill is an elementary school in Denver, CO serving 443 students in grades K–5 as part of School District No. 1, a district where nearly all nearby schools serve high-poverty populations — 86% of Ruby Hill students qualify for free/reduced-price lunch.

The school's test scores took a sharp downturn in 2025-26 after a much stronger 2024-25. English Language Arts proficiency fell from 34.7% to 21.5%, math from 37.0% to 24.8%, and 5th-grade science from 38.5% to 27.0%. This broad decline pushed the school's state ranking down to the 20th percentile, well below both the district and state averages. Even so, Ruby Hill remained competitive among its immediate neighbors: its math score was the third-highest of ten nearby elementary schools, behind only Gust Elementary School and Doull Elementary School, and ahead of Goldrick Elementary School and others. The year before, Ruby Hill ranked second in math and third in ELA within that same cluster.

Ruby Hill's most notable strength is its work with English Language Learners. The school ranked 3rd of 14 schools statewide for ELL effectiveness in 2024-25 (79th percentile, 4 stars), and Hispanic students also ranked in the 76th percentile. A lower-than-average student-teacher ratio of 11.2:1 — compared with 13–17:1 at most nearby schools — likely supports these efforts. However, the school has two clear red flags. Chronic absenteeism nearly doubled, jumping from 19.1% in 2023-24 to 33.6% in 2024-25, though that rate remains below the district's 38.1%. And outcomes for identified gifted and talented students are a notable weakness, with the school ranking 117th of 119 schools in 2024-25. These issues, combined with the 2025-26 test-score slide, will be important to watch. But Ruby Hill's strong ELL results and relatively favorable staffing provide a foundation for recovery.
