Summary

Plateau Valley Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Collbran, Colorado, serving grades PK-6 with a total enrollment of 145 students. The school is part of the Plateau Valley School District No. 50. Over the past several years, the school's statewide ranking has fluctuated, ranging from 361 out of 933 Colorado elementary schools in 2022-2023 to 729 out of 954 in 2012-2013, with a current ranking of 500 out of 950 for the 2024-2025 school year.

Plateau Valley Elementary School faces several challenges, including consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 27.4% to 28.6% in recent years, which is similar to the nearby Grand Valley Center for Family Learning at 27.7% in 2023-2024. The school's test scores in CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) assessments are generally below the state averages across various subjects and grade levels, with the exception of CMAS/English Language Arts (All Grades), where the school's performance was slightly above the state average. Additionally, the school has seen an increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 24.14% in 2021-2022 to 35.17% in 2023-2024, which is lower than the nearby Grand Valley Center for Family Learning at 76.49% in 2023-2024.

Despite these challenges, Plateau Valley Elementary School has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.7 to 14.8 in recent years, which is lower than the nearby Bea Underwood Elementary School at 14.9 in 2023-2024. The school's declining statewide ranking and potential achievement gaps for certain student groups suggest that addressing these issues and implementing targeted interventions could be crucial for improving the school's overall performance and outcomes for its students.

Open Quote Small town school. Appears to be where teachers and administrators go when they can't make it in school district 51. They don't fire bad teachers, they just move them to different classes. Typical small town atmosphere where local gossip is perpetuated throughout the school. School board is made up of local people, so in a town this small the board is naive with regard to methods of making the school better. Facilities are nice, but more investment in competent teachers would be a better use of school resources. Avoid this school. Close Quote
