Summary

Cheyenne Mountain Elementary School is a K–6 elementary school in Colorado Springs, CO, serving 324 students as part of the highly rated Cheyenne Mountain School District No. 12. The school holds a 5-star rating, ranks 82nd out of 943 Colorado elementary schools (91st percentile), and benefits from an exceptionally engaged community: only 10.2% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch and chronic absenteeism sits at 8.0%, roughly one-third the statewide rate.

Academically, the school is a standout in math and science. On the 2025–2026 CMAS assessments, 70.6% of students scored proficient in math—well above the district average of 61.8% and the state average of 37.3%. Science is the school's signature strength: 76.5% of 5th graders were proficient, dramatically outpacing nearby Broadmoor Elementary School (48%) and Pinon Valley Elementary School (35.4%), as well as the state average of 36.1%. Cheyenne Mountain also leads both same-district peers in math, despite similar class sizes and demographics.

The picture is more nuanced in English Language Arts. While 64% proficiency beats the state average of 44.7%, it trails the district average of 67.4% and both Broadmoor (72.2%) and Pinon Valley (71.4%). ELA scores have also slipped from 73.3% in 2022–2023. Another signal worth attention: the gifted and talented subgroup ranks in the 7th percentile statewide, a stark contrast to the school's overall success. Even so, the school outperforms schools just a few miles away by enormous margins—such as Stratton Meadows Elementary School, Otero Elementary School, and Oak Creek Elementary School, where poverty rates are far higher and proficiency rates in ELA and math range from just 9% to 28%. For parents, Cheyenne Mountain offers elite math and science instruction, very low absenteeism, and a supportive community—with room to grow in reading and gifted education.
