Yuma High School is a small rural high school in Yuma, Colorado, serving 228 students in grades 9–12, and it is the only high school in the Yuma 1 School District. With 64% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, the school serves a community with significant economic need. The school's overall state ranking has slipped in recent years, falling from the 44th percentile in 2022–23 to the 25th percentile in 2025–26, placing it 252nd out of 338 Colorado high schools.

The most pressing academic concern is mathematics. On the 11th-grade SAT, only 15% of Yuma students scored proficient, compared with 32% statewide — a steep decline from just two years earlier when Yuma's math scores were above the state average. The graduation rate also dropped sharply, from 89.6% in 2023–24 to 78.0% in 2024–25, well below the state rate of 85.6%. On a more positive note, science is a clear strength: 35.7% of 11th graders were proficient on the CMAS science test in 2025–26, far exceeding the state's 24.8%. When compared with nearby Otis Junior-Senior High School, which earns a 3-star rating and outperforms Yuma in math, and Lone Star Undivided High School, Yuma is the largest school of the three but not the strongest academically.

Chronic absenteeism affects 24.9% of Yuma students — slightly better than the state average but nearly three times the rate at Lone Star. Academic outcomes vary significantly by student group: female students perform noticeably better than male students, and students from low-income households are among the most underserved, ranking at the 18th percentile statewide. Because Yuma's poverty rate (64%) is higher than either nearby school, these gaps deserve attention. However, Otis serves a similarly high-poverty population and achieves stronger results, showing that economic disadvantage doesn't have to determine outcomes. Overall, the picture is mixed: Yuma offers strong science instruction and reasonable attendance, but its math scores and recent graduation-rate volatility are concerns that warrant monitoring.
