Summary:

Fairplay, Colorado, is a small mountain community served by Park County School District No. Re-2, which operates just three public schools — Edith Teter Elementary School (PK–5), South Park Middle School (6–8), and South Park High School (9–12) — all sharing one campus address with a combined enrollment of roughly 398 students.

South Park Middle School is the district's clear standout, ranked in the 62nd percentile of Colorado middle schools with 3 stars. It is the only campus above the state average in ELA (46.8% vs. 44.7%), and its 8th-grade ELA proficiency of 52.2% was 10 points above the state. It also has the lowest chronic absenteeism in the district at 24.5%. South Park High School presents a mixed picture: it shines in SAT Reading/Writing (71% proficient vs. 62% statewide) and graduation (88% vs. 85.6%), but only 15% of 11th graders are proficient in SAT Math versus 32% statewide. Edith Teter Elementary School is the district's biggest concern, ranking in the 37th percentile with just 22.7% ELA and 22.4% math proficiency — both well below state averages — and 3rd-grade reading proficiency of only 16%.

Math is a district-wide weakness at every level, with proficiency gaps ranging from 5.7 points in middle school to 17 points in high school. Chronic absenteeism is elevated at the elementary (30.8%) and high school (34.9%) levels, while the middle school remains below the state average. Notably, the elementary school has the highest student-teacher ratio (22.5) and the weakest scores, while the middle school has the lowest ratio (11.6) and the strongest results. With such small enrollments, year-to-year data can be volatile. Still, targeted math interventions and attendance efforts at the elementary and high school levels would likely benefit the district most.
