Summary:

Zip code 95540 has eight schools serving elementary through high school grades, including schools with different spans such as K–8 and grades 7–8. In 2025–2026, the unweighted average across schools with results was 37% in ELA and 26% in math, both below the state rates of 49% and 38%; the five-school science average was 36%, about even with the state. That science result is concentrated in one school: without the highest-scoring school, the other four schools with science results averaged 26%, 10 points below the state. The most important takeaway is that the overall picture is mixed, with the apparent science strength not shared widely.

Academy of the Redwoods is the clearest standout, leading the 2025–2026 results at 88% in ELA, 63% in math, and 77% in science—38, 24, and 41 points above state rates, respectively. At the other end, East High (Continuation) scored 0% in ELA and math and 15% in science, below the state in all three; Academy’s results were 88, 63, and 62 points higher, respectively. East also had 86% chronic absenteeism, compared with the state’s 18%, and a 68% graduation rate, versus 88% statewide. Among other schools, Fortuna Middle had 44% ELA but 22% math, while Ambrosini was close to the state in math at 37%.

Recent changes vary by subject: the school-group ELA average was nearly flat from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 as the state rate rose by 1 point, and the math average rose by less than 1 point while the state gained 1 point. Science improved more: its five-school average rose 6 points, compared with a 3-point state increase. Individual results diverged—for example, Academy’s science rose 15 points while its math fell 8. Redwood Preparatory Charter, which has no 2025–2026 scores, was above the state in all three All Grades subjects in 2024–2025, though not in every grade and subject. SchoolDigger placed Academy in the 97th percentile in 2025–2026, up from the 96th percentile the prior year. The schools’ free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025 ranged from 38% at Academy to 85% at East; these are context, not an explanation of results.
