Summary:
Elementary schools in ZIP code 95073 include three schools serving K–5 or K–6: Main Street Elementary, Soquel Elementary and Mountain Elementary. Their unweighted average 2025–26 results were above state results in ELA, math and science, but the schools differ substantially. Mountain led all three subjects, while Soquel fell below the state in each one. The clearest overall finding is that Mountain stands out across subjects, but the area’s averages conceal a wide gap between schools.
Mountain had the strongest all-grades results: 74% in ELA, 67% in math and 59% in science. It scored 13 percentage points higher than Main Street in ELA and 17 points higher in math, but led it by only 2 points in science. Soquel had the lowest results—44% in ELA, 36% in math and 27% in science—and trailed the state by 5, 2 and 9 points, respectively. Main Street was above state results in all three subjects; its scores were 16 points higher than Soquel’s in ELA, 14 points higher in math and 30 points higher in science.
Year-to-year changes were mixed: Main Street improved in all subjects, most notably science (+13 points); Mountain rose in ELA (+5) and math (+4) but dipped in science (−2); Soquel’s ELA was nearly unchanged, while math fell 2 points and science fell 13. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 rankings were at the 88th percentile for Mountain, 76th for Main Street and 48th for Soquel. For 2024–25, the reported measure was free/reduced lunch eligible: 15% at Mountain, 25% at Main Street and 40% at Soquel; these are observations, not explanations for score differences. Mountain had 143 students and a 17.8 student–teacher ratio, compared with 383 students and 23.2 at Main Street and 337 students and 22.0 at Soquel. Mountain’s smaller enrollment means its results may be more sensitive to the number of test takers.
