ZIP code 93912 has two alternative schools in the Monterey County Office of Education, both serving kindergarten through grade 12: Monterey County Special Education enrolls 274 students and Monterey County Home Charter enrolls 255. The most important distinction is that Home Charter leads Special Education in every reported 2025–2026 all-grades test subject.

Monterey County Home Charter is the academic standout in this two-school comparison, with proficiency of 40% in English language arts (ELA), 18% in math and 24% in science; Monterey County Special Education is lowest in each, at 3% in ELA and 0% in math and science. The gaps between the schools are 37 percentage points in ELA, 18 in math and 24 in science.
