Summary:
ZIP code 93901 has nine schools—five elementary, one middle and three high schools—serving students from elementary through high school, and their 2025–26 results show that school-level differences are more striking than any single area-wide picture.
Lincoln Elementary stands out among elementary schools: it was the only one above state results in all three main subjects, with 50% proficient in ELA, 47% in math and 38% in science. Salinas High led all listed schools in ELA (64%) and science (37%), respectively 15 and 1 percentage points above state results, but its math result was 28%, 11 points below the state. At the other end, Roosevelt Elementary had the lowest ELA, math and science results: 20%, 16% and 9%, about 29, 22 and 27 points below state figures. Open Door Charter had 14% in science, 22 points below the state; its ELA and math results were suppressed.
Recent changes were mixed: the eight-school average rose about 1 percentage point in ELA, fell about 1 point in math, and the nine-school science average rose about 1 point—less than the state’s 3-point increase. Individual shifts were larger: Lincoln science rose 13 points, while Mission Park Elementary fell 19; University Park Elementary ELA rose 13 points. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking also fell between 2023–24 and 2025–26 at Roosevelt (23 to 8) and Washington Middle (50 to 37); those rankings are not test-score changes. Context differs too: in sy 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 28% at Lincoln and 81% at Roosevelt, while their student-teacher ratios were 23.9 and 22.4. These figures describe school contexts, not causes of results.
