Summary:
Six elementary schools in the Lancaster Elementary District serve ZIP code 93534, with grade spans ranging from K–5 to K–8; enrollments run from 282 to 788. In 2025–2026, their average proficiency was 24% in ELA, 17% in math and 16% in science, compared with state rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. The most important finding is that all three area averages were well below the state rates, even as results varied substantially from school to school.
Lancaster Alternative and Virtual Academies led all three all-grade subjects, with 37% in ELA, 33% in math and 28% in science—about 5, 14 and 10 points above the next-highest school in each subject. Sunnydale had the strongest ELA and math results among the other five schools, at 32% and 19%, while Monte Vista led those five in science, at 19%. Sierra had the lowest results in all three subjects: 16% in ELA, 11% in math and 9% in science. The gap between the academy and Sierra was 21 points in ELA, 22 in math and 19 in science.
From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the six-school average rose 1 point in math but fell 1 point in ELA and 2 points in science; math improved at every school, while the academy’s science result fell 10 points. SchoolDigger percentile ranks rose from 14 to 21 for Sunnydale and from 24 to 43 for the academy. Grade-level results also reveal exceptions: academy fifth graders scored 11 points above the state in math, and Sunnydale third graders scored 2 points above the state in ELA. The schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025 ranging from 88% to 94%, averaging 91%; these figures describe eligibility, not meal receipt. Because grade spans differ and the academy is alternative and virtual, schoolwide comparisons are not fully like-for-like.
