Summary:

ZIP code 93252 has four schools spanning kindergarten through grade 12: Heartland Charter serves K–12, Maricopa Elementary serves K–5, Maricopa Middle serves grades 6–8, and Maricopa High serves grades 9–12. The results show sharply different profiles: the three Maricopa schools are well below state proficiency rates, while Heartland is closer to the state and leads the group. The clearest finding is that Heartland has the strongest all-grades results in all three tested subjects.

In 2025–2026, Heartland had 46% proficiency in English language arts (ELA), 31% in math, and 41% in science; it was 3 percentage points below the state in ELA and 8 below in math, but 5 above in science. Among the Maricopa schools, Middle had the strongest ELA result at 23%, while Elementary led in math at 14%; High had the lowest ELA and math rates, at 13% and 7%. Elementary had the lowest science result, at 10%, compared with 12% at High and 11% at Middle. Same-grade results reinforce Heartland’s lead: in grade 11, it exceeded High by 61 points in ELA, 34 in math, and 47 in science.

Overall results moved away from the state between 2024–2025 and 2025–2026: the four-school average fell from 34% to 25% in ELA and from 17% to 15% in math; for the three schools with science results in both years, the average dropped from 24% to 21%. Heartland’s own results rose in all three subjects, while Maricopa High’s SchoolDigger ranking fell from the 49th percentile in 2023–2024 to the 16th in 2025–2026. School context does not show a simple pattern: Heartland has the highest student-teacher ratio, 37.1, yet leads in proficiency, while High has the lowest ratio, 8.3, but the weakest ELA and math results. For 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible students were 42% at Heartland, 98% at Elementary, and 96% at both Middle and High; these are context, not an explanation for results. Because the schools serve different grade spans and the three Maricopa schools have small enrollments, same-grade comparisons are more direct where available.
