Summary:
ZIP code 92240 has eight schools: five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school, serving students from elementary through high school. In 2025–2026, the schools’ average results were 27% in ELA, 15% in mathematics and 14% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. The most important finding is that every school’s reported result was below the state result in all three subjects.
The schools have different strengths, though: Desert Hot Springs High led in ELA at 39%, 8 percentage points above the next-highest result, at Bella Vista Elementary (31%); it is the only high school, so this is not a same-grade comparison. Two Bunch Palms Elementary led mathematics at 19%, about 1 point ahead of the next school. Bella Vista led science at 20%, narrowly ahead of Bubbling Wells Elementary. At the other end, Julius Corsini Elementary had the lowest results in all three subjects: 21% in ELA, 11% in mathematics and 9% in science. Among the middle schools, Painted Hills Middle led ELA and mathematics, while Desert Springs Middle led science.
Recent progress was limited: the area’s average ELA result was essentially unchanged from 2024–2025, mathematics was unchanged, and science fell by 2 percentage points, while state results rose in all three subjects. Individual schools varied; for example, ELA improved at five schools, and science declined at five. Grade-level results can also change the picture: third-grade mathematics ranged from 9% at Julius Corsini to 34% at Bubbling Wells. Chronic absenteeism averaged 41%, compared with 31% in Palm Springs Unified and 18% statewide. The elementary schools’ student–teacher ratios ranged from 18.2 to 20.6, while their reported free/reduced lunch eligible shares ranged from 91% to 94% in 2024–2025; these are context, not explanations for scores.
