Summary:

Zip code 91306 has eight schools—six elementary and two middle schools, with no high schools—serving an area where results vary considerably from school to school. In 2025–26, the seven schools with current results averaged 35% in English language arts (ELA), 33% in math and 26% in science, below state results of 49%, 38% and 36%, respectively. The clearest overall finding is that these below-state averages conceal a wide gap between schools near or above state performance and schools well below it.

Stanley Mosk Elementary led ELA and math, with 49.1% in ELA—almost level with the state’s 49.3%—and 46% in math, 7 points above the state. Citizens of the World Charter School West Valley led science at 41%, 5 points above the state, and also scored above the state in math. Limerick Avenue Elementary was another math exception, 2 points above the state. At the lower end, John A. Sutter Middle had the lowest ELA and math results: 21% and 18%, respectively, or 28 and 21 points below state results. Sunny Brae Avenue Elementary and Winnetka Avenue Elementary were also well below the state in ELA and math.

Across the same seven schools, average scores fell from 2024–25 to 2025–26 by 3 points in ELA and 1 point each in math and science, while the state results rose. Mosk improved in all three subjects, by 8 points in ELA, 5 in math and 8 in science; Citizens of the World’s science score fell 27 points but remained the area’s highest. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking rose for Mosk, from 42 to 62, and fell for Citizens of the World, from 73 to 60. Reported student-teacher ratios were 21.3 at Mosk and 23.9 at Citizens of the World, so the top results did not belong to the schools with the lowest ratios. In 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible rates were 88% at Mosk and 43% at Citizens of the World; these are contextual figures, not explanations for school results. One comparison caveat: schools serve different grade spans, and Ingenium Charter Middle has supplied test results only for 2024–25.
