ZIP code 90755 has two K–5 elementary schools—Signal Hill Elementary and Alvarado Elementary—both in Long Beach Unified. The clearest shared strength is math: in 2025–2026, the schools averaged 46% proficient, 7 percentage points above the state, and their average ELA result was 54%, 5 points above the state. Science is the major concern: the schools averaged 25% proficient, 11 points below the state’s 36%.

Alvarado leads in all-grades ELA and math, with 57% proficient in ELA and 46% in math, compared with 51% and 45% at Signal Hill. The schools are closest in math, separated by 2 points; their ELA results differ by 6 points. Alvarado also leads in science, 30% to 19%, but remains 6 points below the state, while Signal Hill is 17 points below. Grade-level results offer exceptions: Signal Hill leads in grade 5 ELA and grade 4 math, while Alvarado leads in grades 3 and 4 ELA and grades 3 and 5 math. In 2025–2026, SchoolDigger gives Alvarado the higher statewide ranking, at the 66th percentile versus Signal Hill’s 58th; both have three stars.

Results have generally weakened since 2024–2025: the two-school averages fell 2 points in ELA, 3 in math, and 9 in science, while state results rose in all three subjects. Chronic absenteeism in 2025–2026 was higher at Alvarado, 29% versus 24% at Signal Hill, despite Alvarado’s higher proficiency results.
