Zip code 90301 has eight schools—three elementary, two middle, and three high schools—with grade spans ranging from K–5 to K–8 and grades 9–12. Results differ sharply by school: in 2025–2026, four schools averaged 36% proficiency in English language arts (ELA), 21% in mathematics, and 18% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38%, and 36%. The most important takeaway is that this is an uneven group, not a uniformly high- or low-performing area.

City Honors International Preparatory High is the clearest 2025–2026 standout: it led the four schools in ELA at 73%, mathematics at 48%, and science at 33%, with leads over the next-highest school of 43, 27, and 13 percentage points, respectively. Its ELA and math were above state results, while science was 3 points below; SchoolDigger ranked it in the 76th percentile and gave it four stars. In 2024–2025, ICEF Inglewood Elementary Charter Academy led seven schools in ELA and mathematics, with math at 44%—7 points above the state. Century Community Charter also stood out in ELA at 50%, slightly above the state and 20 points ahead of Grace Hopper STEM Academy. At the other end, Inglewood Continuation High had the lowest ELA and math results in both comparison years; in 2025–2026, it scored 17% in ELA and 4% in math. Its chronic absenteeism was 68%, compared with 18% statewide.

Across the same four schools with results in both years, average math proficiency rose from 16% to 21%, narrowing the average gap to the state from 21 to 18 points; ELA moved from 38% to 36% and science from 20% to 18%, widening their gaps. School-specific changes varied: City Honors’ math rose 16 points, while Oak Street and Beulah Payne STEAM Academy each declined in all three subjects. SchoolDigger rankings also diverged: City Honors rose from the 54th to the 76th percentile between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026, while Oak Street and Beulah Payne fell 8 and 9 percentile points. As context, all eight schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025, ranging from 5% at New Opportunities Charter to 96% at ICEF; these figures describe the schools but do not explain their results.
