Summary:
Five public elementary schools in ZIP code 90039, all in Los Angeles Unified, serve students in K–5 or K–6. In 2025–26, their average proficiency was 67% in ELA, 61% in math and 56% in science, compared with statewide results of 49%, 38% and 36%. All five schools scored above the state in all three subjects, but results within the ZIP code ranged by 36 points in ELA, 37 in math and 29 in science. The most important finding is that strong area averages hide substantial differences among schools.
Ivanhoe Elementary is the clear leader, with 87% proficiency in ELA, 80% in math and 69% in science—38, 41 and 34 points above the state, respectively. Clifford Street Elementary Math & Technology Magnet ranks second in ELA and math and third in science; it is also the smallest school, with 128 students. At the lower end, Atwater Avenue Elementary has the lowest ELA result at 51%, while Glenfeliz Boulevard Elementary is lowest in math at 43% and science at 40%. Even these lowest results are above their subject’s statewide figure.
Science improved most over time: the five-school average rose 6 points from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while ELA and math were nearly unchanged. The science gains varied: Clifford Street rose 18 points and Atwater 11, while Ivanhoe fell 7. SchoolDigger ranks Ivanhoe at the 98th statewide percentile and Clifford Street at the 90th; Glenfeliz is at the 63rd. School characteristics do not sort neatly with results: Ivanhoe has the highest student–teacher ratio, 23.6, while Atwater has the lowest, 17.4. Reported free/reduced lunch eligible shares for 2024–25 range from 18% at Ivanhoe to 85% at Allesandro Elementary; these are context, not an explanation for achievement. Since schools serve different grade spans, families may also want to consider results for the specific grade and subject they care about.
