Summary:
Elementary schools in ZIP code 90034 include five K–5 schools in Los Angeles Unified, so they serve the same grade span. Their 2025–26 results show that families can find very different achievement levels within the ZIP code: the gap between the highest- and lowest-scoring schools was 48 points in English language arts (ELA), 53 in math and 60 in science. The greatest contrast is in science.
Castle Heights Elementary narrowly led ELA, with 84.8% proficient compared with 84.7% at Clover Avenue Elementary. Clover led math and science, at 85% and 74%; Castle scored 80% and 68% in those subjects. Both schools were well above state rates. At the other end, Palms Elementary had the lowest results in all three subjects: 36% in ELA, 32% in math and 13% in science—13, 6 and 23 points below state rates, respectively. Charnock Road Elementary and Shenandoah Street Elementary fell between these leaders and Palms, with Charnock notably ahead of Shenandoah in each subject.
Average results across the five schools rose from 2024–25 to 2025–26: 2 points in ELA, 7 in math and 8 in science. Charnock made the biggest gains, improving 8, 21 and 21 points, while Clover declined in all three subjects but remained a top performer. SchoolDigger ranked Clover 113th and Castle 168th among California schools; Charnock ranked 970th, Shenandoah 2,960th and Palms 3,730th. The 2024–25 free/reduced lunch eligible measure ranged from 33% at Castle to 93% at Shenandoah; California’s statewide-free-meals flag means this eligibility measure does not indicate whether students can access free meals. Ratios also varied, from 16.3 students per teacher at Palms to 22.7 at Castle, without matching the achievement pattern consistently.
