Open Quote We are on our first year at Saklan. We have a 3 year old in the Owlet Program, 4 days a week, half days, with Mrs. Amanda. We took a great deal of time researching and interviewing schools throughout the entire SF Bay Area (south and east and north). We narrowed it down to Saklan in Moraga and Seven Hills in Walnut Creek. We wanted a non-religious private school pre-K through 8 that offered extracurricular activities, small classes, and a traditional school setting (we chose not to do Montessori, for example, and wanted a school that offered modern electronics and testing.) The downsides to this school is the obscure location in Moraga which creates a commute. But they do offer van services in the East Bay. Also, they do not offer sports, but do provide gym classes frequently and have plenty of outdoor free play. Moraga may be a commute, but the town itself is very outdoorsy with nearby playgrounds/parks/trails.

Major pointers that make Saklan stand out are their summer programs, after-school programs, regular educational studies, and their Friday Flag Days that promote community, leadership, public speaking, group effort projects. All parents, staff, teachers, students surround the flag every Friday and the students put on very entertaining skits or readings. They also celebrate any birthdays that week and have announcements. And the music teacher leads a class in a special song they just learned. It just proves the all-around balance that the school provides each and every week. Highly Recommend this hidden gem! About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
