Open Quote In reviewing schools in Marin county with prospective home owners I am always surprised to find Marin Primary & Middle School in the mix. Yes it has been around since the 1970's, but I counsel 'home owners' that it has never been, nor should be, at the top of parents 'first choice' list. The academic history of the school is alarming as was the suicide of it's founder. Teachers do not have to be qualified or certified to teach there! It's also interesting to note that all reviews for this school have been written by current parents, or the school's 'teachers'. There are no impartial/unbiased reviews anywhere.

Marin has fabulous public schools with highly qualified teachers, as required by the state. The rigorous standards placed on our county's public schools, as compared to the high cost, and poorly qualified teachers of this school say a lot. Marin Primary School's academic record in preparing students for high school is low, as compared with the public schools in both Larkspur and Ross. The lack of diversity both in student population and teachers says a lot about their 'global' slant towards education. The schools focus is on 'nurturing' students which is great if your child doesn't wish to continue in higher education!

I do suggest to buyer's however, that if they have a 'special needs' child, or one with social or emotional issues, or one who has had difficulty in acclimating in other schools, then you should consider this school. This seems to be a large portion of their demographics. With little academic rigor, concentration on sports and projects instead, this school might be a consideration. But beware that you will have to pay a high price for this accommodation, and don't expect that your child will then be prepared to tackle the greater world of high school academics. Marin has great schools, so do your homework well before committing to this school. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
