Summary

Brywood Elementary is a highly-regarded K-6 public school serving 578 students in the top-tier Irvine Unified School District, consistently ranking in the top 5-6% of all California elementary schools for over a decade.

Academically, Brywood is a model of stable excellence, with students significantly outperforming both district and state averages in English, Math, and Science. Its strength is particularly evident in the upper grades, where sixth graders achieve over 88% proficiency. The school shows notable effectiveness in supporting diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students in Special Education. However, an area for potential growth is its chronic absenteeism rate of 8.7%, which is higher than some top-performing neighbors like Santiago Hills Elementary (5.2%) and Canyon View Elementary (5.0%), despite being well below the state average.

When compared to nearby schools, Brywood represents a reliable, high-performing choice. It spends more per student than some higher-ranked schools, which may reflect resources dedicated to specialized support programs. While specialized schools like the Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy may rank slightly higher, Brywood offers remarkable consistency and a strong track record of helping students grow from grade to grade, making it an excellent and steady option for families.

Open Quote Extremely RUDE front office employees who act like parents/children are a bother to them. If they were working for a private sector, they would have been fired long time ago. Totally unacceptable behavior and leaves a bad impression on the school. Put them out of their misery and please replace them with people who actually want to be there. Close Quote

Open Quote The class sizes are very large. The APAAS program has a teacher who should not be teaching gifted students. She calls them her, "little nerds!" Imagine a teacher being so oblivious or uncaring about the impact of her words when parents are working hard to encourage their children in academics. Close Quote
