Summary

Alderwood Elementary is a well-regarded K-6 public school serving 770 students within the highly-ranked Irvine Unified School District in Irvine, California.

The school consistently performs well above state averages, with current test scores placing it in the 88th percentile of all California elementary schools. Within the competitive Irvine district, Alderwood is a solid, upper-middle performer, achieving comparable results to schools like Cypress Village Elementary and Meadow Park Elementary, though it ranks slightly below top-tier schools such as Bonita Canyon Elementary and Turtle Rock Elementary. A notable strength is its exceptional support for specific student groups; the school earns some of its highest marks for the academic performance of its English Language Learners and students receiving special education services.

Alderwood operates efficiently, achieving strong results with a higher student-teacher ratio and lower per-student spending than many neighboring schools. Areas for potential growth include reducing the chronic absenteeism rate, which is higher than the district average, and addressing specific dips in 5th-grade math and upper-grade English Language Arts scores. Overall, Alderwood is a high-quality school that delivers particularly effective support for diverse learners within one of the state's top districts.

Open Quote It's one of the best schools in the state. The teachers are excellent, and they actually have the children's best interest. There are numerous opportunities for the children to grow not only in academics, but in leadership. This school highly emphasizes growth in a well rounded environment, where children are exposed to outreach in the community through Team Kids, art, music, and also they encourage health. Alderwood leads the district in the number of children who walk to school. There is a high involvement of parent volunteers at Alderwood which is a good indicator of the community here investing in our children's future. Because the
school is located in a safe community, the school does continue to strive to keep our children safe by maintaining certain rules. Close Quote

Open Quote The best part of being a parent is being able to walk your children to school, be greeted by their teachers and to have an open door policy with them. BUT here at Alderwood, there is no direct contact with the teachers! You the parent is NOT allow to walk your child to the class room door, you will be stop by Guards at the front of the stairs and black top at the play ground. You will be told NO PARENTS ON SCHOOL GROUND. To get in contact with your child's teachers you must either email or leave a voice mail with no guarantee of a reply. I am looking for another school for my kids to go to next year and I suggest you do the same. Close Quote
