Summary

Citrus Glen Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 491 students in the Ventura Unified School District, which has experienced a notable decline in its statewide academic ranking over the past decade, now placing in the 39th percentile.

Academically, the school's proficiency rates in English, math, and science are below the district average, with a particularly large gap compared to higher-performing schools like Mound Elementary. Performance is weakest in the 5th grade, and the school struggles more with specific student groups, such as English Learners, than it did several years ago. Interestingly, despite a significant increase in per-student spending, these academic challenges persist, and the school receives less funding per student than some nearby schools like Juanamaria Elementary.

There are positive signs, however, as the school has made strong progress in reducing chronic student absenteeism. When looking at other schools, Portola Elementary, which serves a similar student population, achieves much higher English proficiency, suggesting improvement is possible. Compared to schools in the neighboring Rio Elementary district, such as Rio Plaza Elementary, Citrus Glen performs better academically, highlighting the overall strength of its home district.

Open Quote School is excellent. Fairly new (around 10yrs), growing quick, with very good rating. Teachers are great, eager to teach, and help in every way possible. Only negative at this time is the principal (Patricia Kingsley), she recently took over (going on 3rd school year), and shes anything but helpful, always appears to care less about a parent's need, very arrogant. As soon as she is gone, the school will be perfect. Close Quote
