Summary

Vallejo Charter is a K–8 school in Vallejo, California, serving 350 students in the Vallejo City Unified area. Its latest results show one central concern: in 2025–2026, proficiency was below both district and state results in English language arts (ELA), math, and science.

Compared with nearby same-district schools, Vallejo Charter was around the middle, ranking sixth of 10 in ELA and math and fifth of nine in science. Its rates were 24% in ELA, 17% in math, and 12% in science, compared with nearby averages of 27%, 19%, and 15%. The school was also below district results—27% in ELA, 20% in math, and 16% in science—and state results of 49%, 38%, and 36%, respectively. Fourth-grade ELA and third- and fourth-grade math are relative bright spots: each result was above the district rate, and the school ranked second of nine nearby schools in fourth-grade ELA. By contrast, math results were weaker in several later grades. Nearby K–8 school Cave Language Academy had higher all-grades results: 54% in ELA, 36% in math, and 27% in science.

Results have improved in some ways, but progress is mixed. SchoolDigger’s overall ranking rose from the 3rd statewide percentile in 2023–2024 to the 13th in 2025–2026, still a 1-star rating and the same percentile as the district. Over that period, ELA fell 1 percentage point, math rose 1 point, and science fell 1 point; the school’s gaps with state results widened in all three subjects. Chronic absenteeism dropped 17 points, to 33% in 2025–2026, but remained 15 points above the state. The 2024–2025 student-teacher ratio was 23.2, and 72% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible. SchoolDigger’s student-group rankings show a notable contrast: in 2025–2026, students receiving special education services ranked at the 64th statewide percentile, compared with the school’s overall 13th percentile. In 2023–2024, English language learners ranked at the 53rd percentile, compared with the school’s overall 3rd percentile.
