Summary

Victor Elementary is a large, well-regarded public elementary school serving about 965 students from kindergarten through 5th grade in the Torrance Unified School District, consistently earning 4-star ratings and performing well above state averages in English and Math.

Compared to nearby schools like Anza Elementary and Seaside Elementary, Victor stands out for its larger size and greater economic diversity, successfully maintaining strong academic performance even as the number of students needing economic support has grown. The school has a particular strength in supporting English Language Learners, who achieve at exceptional levels. However, parents should note that chronic absenteeism is higher here than at neighboring schools, and student performance in Science, while meeting state averages, lags behind both the district and other local schools.

Victor Elementary shows a notable pattern where its effectiveness varies across different student groups; it achieves very high results with some groups while others perform closer to average. The school spends slightly less per student than some comparable schools in the area. While its overall ranking remains solid, it has slipped a few points in recent years as some nearby schools have improved or maintained higher standings.

Open Quote My kid has been attending this school since kindergarten and the experience has progressively deteriorated to the extent that I cannot wait for him to finish with this school.

The lower grade teachers were great, but 4th and 5th grade – not so much. The 5th grade teacher in particular is seen outsourcing the entire learning in the form of massive homework without introducing these concepts properly. Kids are harassed constantly in the name of preparing them for the middle school. Kept receiving feedback that my kid is not keeping up with homework and I thought that only my kid is struggling. But recently found out that most of the kids are struggling in this class and most of them are now less confident, scared of failure and even more scared of the middle school.

The office ladies are absolutely terrible in their attitude. Are famously known for yelling and talking down with everyone walking in. In last five years, I cannot think of one instance where I have seen them or heard about them being kind to anyone. I am willing to bet that they are unemployable in any other profession as such attitude is not saleable anywhere. I blame the principle for encouraging such attitude.

The school nurse is and exception and have heard a lot of good things from many kids. Close Quote
