Summary

Berylwood Elementary serves 457 students in kindergarten through fifth grade in Simi Valley, California, as part of Simi Valley Unified. In 2025–2026, proficiency was 26% in English language arts (ELA), 19% in math and 14% in science. Those results were below the state by 23, 20 and 22 percentage points, respectively, and below the district by 24, 19 and 26 points. Most importantly, Berylwood scored below every nearby K–5 school with results in all three subjects, and its gaps with the state have widened since 2022–2023.

There is a relative bright spot in third-grade math, where 33% of students were proficient, compared with 10% in fourth grade; however, that third-grade result was still below the state’s 47% and the district’s 53%. Fourth grade stands out as a particular weakness: its 15% ELA proficiency and 10% math proficiency were the lowest among nearby schools with fourth-grade results, and fell 31 and 32 points below state rates. Across all grades, the nearby-school averages were 51% in ELA, 42% in math and 37% in science—25, 24 and 23 points above Berylwood. Chronic absenteeism has improved, falling from 37% in 2021–2022 to 22% in 2025–2026, but remains above the district’s 16% and state’s 18%, and higher than every nearby school’s reported rate.

Results have declined overall since 2022–2023: ELA proficiency fell 3 points, math 6 points and science 5 points. Berylwood also fell from the 33rd to the 13th percentile in SchoolDigger’s overall ranking, earning 1 star in 2025–2026. SchoolDigger’s statewide effectiveness ranking for English Language Learner Students dropped sharply, from the 73rd percentile in 2022–2023 to the 19th in 2023–2024, a notable decline in relative standing for that group. Its Special Education Students ranking also fell, from the 13th percentile in 2023–2024 to the 1st in 2025–2026. In 2024–2025, 76% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible, the second-highest share among nearby schools with that measure; the student–teacher ratio was 22.7 to 1.
