Summary

San Francisco Public Montessori is a small public elementary school serving 107 students in grades K-5 within the San Francisco Unified School District, located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood.

The school's recent academic performance has shown significant volatility, with its statewide ranking dropping sharply from the 76th percentile in 2023 to the 33rd percentile in 2025; test scores in English and Math have fallen approximately 20-25 percentage points over two years. This decline coincides with a dramatic 59% increase in the student-teacher ratio, now the highest among nearby schools at 26.7 students per teacher, and a chronic absenteeism rate of 34.2%, which is higher than the district and state averages. Interestingly, the school spends $25,206 per student, which is among the highest in the area, creating a notable contrast with its declining results.

When compared to nearby schools, the performance trajectory raises questions. For instance, Claire Lilienthal Elementary, less than a mile away, maintains a 93rd percentile ranking with lower spending and much lower absenteeism. Similarly, Creative Arts Charter, another alternative school, shows more stable performance at a lower cost per student. The school's small size of 107 students may contribute to these year-to-year fluctuations, and parents should note the significant variation in performance between different grade levels within the school.

Open Quote I have a child here at K. Despites the all transitions had in the past,we have all been very happy there - the school is a special place, a warm, caring place where I have always felt safe leaving my child. SHe has been happy with every single teachers that she have had, so far. The environment is inspired to learn and enjoyed pretty much everything about SFPM. Many of the parents are closely linked with their children and the school and that makes for a fabulous community feeling that translates into a high quality education. Close Quote
