Summary

Standley Middle is a high-performing public school serving 813 students in grades 6-8 in San Diego's University City area, part of the San Diego Unified district, and has consistently ranked among the top schools in the state.

The school excels academically, with student proficiency rates in English, math, and science significantly higher than both district and state averages. It stands out from many nearby schools, such as Creative Performing and Media Arts and Innovation Middle, not just in test scores but also in maintaining exceptionally low rates of chronic student absenteeism, which is a key factor in its success. While schools like Muirlands Middle and Challenger Middle show similar high performance, Standley achieves its results while serving a student population with a moderate level of economic need.

Notably, Standley Middle delivers these excellent outcomes cost-effectively, spending less per student than several lower-performing neighboring schools. It also demonstrates strong support for all students, with particularly high rankings for subgroups including students in special education and those experiencing economic disadvantage, proving that high achievement is possible for a diverse student body.

Open Quote Faculty and teachers are fair and strict while enforcing school rules. And it does add to the fact that they take bullying and harassment seriously which shows that they can be a trustworthy and safe environment for students like myself to grow and progress as learners. Though, It may be a second choice considering the amount of stress and anxiety that I and other students deal with within the day to day life of a Standley Middle School student. These things include... Homework, drama, and outside school activities. Standley isn't necessarily a bad or an amazing school, but it's an "eh" one if that makes sense. Close Quote

Open Quote This is a great school and it has gotten better over the last couple of year because of the Principal Mr. Pearson and the admin staff he has put together. The population of the school is diverse, the neighborhood really is not. The teachers are mostly good, the campus is clean and safe. Close Quote
