Open Quote This is my daughter's first year at La Jolla Elementary and we have had such a great experience! The principal, Ms. Tripi is incredibly dedicated to the school and students. She knows all the students by name and actively participates in each classroom. We really like that the school focuses on academics but teachers also focus on character development of their students. Open Quote Student-teacher ratio significantly changed from previous years, which significantly affected the students' education this academic year. There are several teachers who are either incompetent, overworked, or bordering on pathologically depressed and should not be allowed to teach. Maybe they were all better when class size was smaller, but the increased work load has put several teachers over the edge, into unacceptable performance, especially for such a highly rated school. My prediction is that surrounding private schools will see increased enrollment in the 2015-2016 academic year. Close Quote

Open Quote This school plays favorites with generous donors, which are appreciated, but if you are not one of them, they couldn't care less. The teachers are alright, about half use public shaming and humiliation of students to keep them in line. If your child tests GATE, they really do not have the resources to handle that. The homework they give out is ridiculous. Our child just blew off his homework, saying it was redundant and repetitive and a waste of time. He was really right about that. He rarely turned in his homework, the teacher would send us regular emails scolding us about his lack of homework, but still gives him high marks.... despite that, the teacher says it is unfair that some students aren't turning in homework while others are. They also ask the parents to not help so much with homework. We really don't know what they want, but as long as he gets high marks, it seems that the homework really is a waste of time he could use for other enriching after school activities. Anyway, it is nothing special, the teachers are alright, but there is definitely a clique among the socially active parents, which works against the parents who are not part of that tennis dress wearing set. Good luck with this school. It is hit and miss based on the teacher Close Quote

Open Quote Donna Trippi is very rude and very unwelcoming to new students. She needs to take her East Coast mentality and go back to NY! Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio
Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
