Summary

American Canyon High is a public high school serving grades 9-12 for about 1,720 students in the Napa Valley Unified School District, known for a consistent decade-long rise from a 2-star to a 4-star rating and serving a community with a significant economically disadvantaged population.

The school shines in its exceptionally high graduation rate (95.6%) and strong English Language Arts scores, significantly outperforming its district average. It also does an excellent job keeping students in school, with low dropout and chronic absenteeism rates, especially notable given the economic challenges many students face. A key area for growth is mathematics, where proficiency lags behind state averages. The school shows effective use of resources, achieving these solid outcomes with moderate per-student spending compared to some neighboring districts.

When compared to nearby schools, American Canyon High stands out. It significantly outperforms comprehensive high schools in the Vallejo City Unified district, like Vallejo High and Jesse M. Bethel High, in nearly every metric. While schools such as Benicia High and Angelo Rodriguez High rank slightly higher overall, American Canyon High competes closely in graduation rates and maintains lower chronic absenteeism, all while serving a student body with greater economic need.

Open Quote This school has a recent increase in fights occurring at school, as well as many lockdowns because of shooter threats. Recently, students of ACHS got stabbed and robbed at the local 7-11, which goes to show how bad AC is becoming. With the increase of acceptance of students from Vallejo, the school atmosphere of students has become worse. While walking in the hallways, students give rude comments about an individual’s clothing and they analyze your outfit head to toe for many reasons. Some students are made fun for being unable to afford nicer clothes, while others judged for not dressing similarly to their peers. The students here harshly criticize people that like to be different, from clothing choices to how their work is done. I feel the only way students are happy at this school if they fit into their stereotypical AC cliques. An observation that is made by many people who aren’t from American Canyon, is that students are “stuck in their own world”, since AC is a small place. They have their own way of thinking which is different from the “real world”. Many people who grew up in American Canyon their whole lives turn out to be weird people who are stuck in their own thoughts. Close Quote
