Summary

Tri-C Community Day is a Los Angeles Unified high school serving 231 students in grades 7–12 in Los Angeles, California. Its latest results show substantial challenges in academics, attendance and graduation. In 2025–2026, just 5% of students were proficient in English language arts, 8% in math and 2% in science. The most urgent concern is that chronic absenteeism was 88%, while the graduation rate was 27%.

Compared with district and state results, Tri-C’s proficiency was far lower in every tested subject: ELA was 5%, versus 48% in the district and 49% statewide; math was 8%, versus 40% and 38%; and science was 2%, versus 32% and 36%. Math was the closest to district and state benchmarks, while ELA had the largest gaps. In the nearby comparison, however, science stands out as particularly weak: Tri-C scored below every nearby school with reported results, including Frida Kahlo High, the next-lowest at 4%. Tri-C’s ELA result was higher only than Frida Kahlo’s among nearby schools. By contrast, Orthopaedic Hospital and Early College Academy-LA Trade Technical College had ELA proficiency of 78% and 83%, and science proficiency of 43% and 64%.

Results have not improved consistently: from 2022–2023 to 2025–2026, math proficiency rose from 0% to 8%, while ELA fell from 10% to 5% and science slipped from 3% to 2%. SchoolDigger’s overall ranking also declined from the 16th percentile and 1 star in 2024–2025 to the 10th percentile and 0 stars in 2025–2026. One notable exception is SchoolDigger’s ranking of how well the school serves students receiving special education: it rose from the 1st percentile in 2023–2024 to the 20th percentile in 2025–2026. Context includes a student-teacher ratio of 13.9 in 2024–2025, the second-lowest among nearby schools with data, and 96% free/reduced lunch eligible that school year. These figures describe the school but do not explain its results.
