Lakeside Elementary

Summary:

Lakeside Elementary is a public elementary school located in Los Gatos, California, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 73 students. The school is part of the Los Gatos Union Elementary district, which is ranked 582 out of 1,560 districts in California and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lakeside Elementary has a significantly higher percentage of white students (65.75%) compared to the nearby schools, such as Village, Marshall Lane Elementary, and Foothill Elementary, which have more diverse student populations. The school has also experienced a sharp increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 3.0% in 2020-2021 to 27.6% in 2022-2023, which is much higher than the nearby schools. Lakeside Elementary's test scores in English Language Arts and Mathematics are generally on par with or slightly below the Los Gatos Union Elementary district and the state of California, but they have declined over the years, dropping from a 5-star rating to a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lakeside Elementary's performance, as measured by its SchoolDigger ranking and test scores, has declined significantly over the years, and the school faces challenges with high chronic absenteeism and a lack of racial diversity compared to nearby schools. Addressing these issues and implementing targeted interventions and strategies will be crucial for the school to improve and better serve its students.

Open Quote Wonderful school, great staff, great community and environment. Like many other parents, I’ve done a fair bit of volunteering. The school encourages a great deal of interaction by parents, which I like, and it allows me to take part in my children’s educational process. Best of all - the school even has a garden where the children learn about plants and great playground. It's the best! Close Quote

Open Quote The school is struggling in all forms and should be allowed to shutdown. The toxic environment is affecting the kids tremendously. They are involved in many incidences kids should be shielded from. All parties are against each other and demoralized I wonder if they can even know what they are fighting for. They are stuck pointing fingers. The kids suffer enough. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
