Summary

Eucalyptus Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 709 students in the Hawthorne School District, consistently ranking in the lower-middle tier among California elementary schools.

The school faces significant challenges, with academic proficiency in English, math, and science below state averages and a chronic absenteeism rate of 24.3%, which is higher than nearby schools like Washington and Ramona. While serving a high-need population, Eucalyptus performs below other schools in its own district with similar demographics, particularly in comparison to Washington Elementary, which achieves better results with a similar student body. The school also has a higher student-teacher ratio than several of these neighboring schools.

A striking finding is the contrast with schools in the neighboring Wiseburn Unified district, such as Del Aire Elementary, which shows much higher proficiency and lower absenteeism despite close geographic proximity. This highlights how district boundaries can impact educational resources and outcomes. The consistent pattern of underperformance at Eucalyptus over time suggests systemic challenges, though the success of a peer like Washington indicates potential pathways for improvement through targeted interventions, particularly around attendance.
