Summary

Fern Drive Elementary is a K-6 public school serving 372 students in the Fullerton Elementary district, performing solidly above expectations for a school where a majority of students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Academically, the school performs near or above state averages, with particular strengths in mathematics and science, and it stands out for its exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of 6.2%, which is far better than the state average. This effective management of daily attendance is a likely contributor to its success. Compared to other local schools with similar student populations, like Woodcrest Elementary or Valencia Park Elementary, Fern Drive achieves significantly stronger academic results, making it a notable example of effective education within its community.

While it doesn't match the elite test scores of the highest-performing, more affluent schools in the area such as Robert C. Fisler Elementary, Fern Drive consistently ranks in the 60th percentile statewide and shows it is possible to deliver good outcomes for all students. The school's steady performance and cost-effectiveness suggest it employs successful strategies that other schools with similar challenges could learn from.

Open Quote We love Fern Drive. Dr Julie Brandon is an excellent leader- she is kind, approachable and has a lot of dynamic ideas that the kids seem to love. I understand that Fern has had a few bad reviews a while ago, and lower test scores, but I truly believe that Dr Bandon will turn this around. I am excited to see this progress unfold. My daughter loves her teacher, and generally loves going to school everyday! Close Quote
