Summary

Terra Vista Elementary is a large, well-regarded public school serving about 855 students in kindergarten through 5th grade within the Etiwanda Elementary school district in Rancho Cucamonga, consistently earning a 4-star rating and performing well above state averages in English and Math.

The school stands out for its exceptional effectiveness in supporting specific student groups, such as English Language Learners and students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, where it ranks among the very top schools in the state. While it is a larger school with a slightly higher student-teacher ratio, it achieves these strong academic results while spending less per student than many neighboring schools like Dona Merced Elementary or Coyote Canyon Elementary. However, parents should note the school's chronic absenteeism rate, while improving since the pandemic, is currently higher than some district peers such as Caryn Elementary and Grapeland Elementary.

Compared to other high-performing schools in the Etiwanda Elementary district, such as Carleton P. Lightfoot Elementary, Terra Vista's overall statewide ranking is slightly lower, but its great strength is delivering equitable, high-quality education across its diverse student body. An area for potential growth is science proficiency, where its scores trail those of several nearby schools.

Open Quote Terra Vista is a wonderful school! There are so many programs that keep the kids excited about going to school. I really love that they have high academic standards and many programs centered around the arts. The kids learn about a new artist every month and they create their own art. My son is in the band program and my daughter performs in Chorus every year. They also teach kids how to persevere and never give up. The teachers really care about the kids and the office staff is always friendly. Close Quote
