Sherman Oaks Elementary serves 524 students in grades K–8 in San Jose, alongside a group of nearby elementary and K–8 schools. In 2025–2026, 40% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA), 31% in math and 25% in science. The central concern is that results were below state, district and nearby-school averages in all three subjects, making this a broad academic challenge rather than a weakness limited to one subject.

One relative strength in SchoolDigger’s statewide rankings was English Learner Students: the school reached the 68th percentile in 2023–2024, compared with its overall 50th percentile that year. By contrast, its Low Socio Economic Status Students ranking fell from the 62nd percentile in 2024–2025 to the 33rd in 2025–2026.
