Summary

Altus Schools North County is a small, non-traditional public high school in Escondido serving about 149 students in grades 6-12, operating within its own Altus Schools North County District in a region with some of San Diego County's highest-performing schools.

The school serves a student population with significant economic need and faces considerable academic challenges, particularly in mathematics where proficiency is less than a third of the state average. Its graduation rate of 54.7% is significantly lower than nearby schools like Poway High (98%) and Del Norte High (97%), and it operates with a high student-teacher ratio of 30-to-1. However, the school's statewide ranking has shown recent improvement, and it demonstrates relative strength in preparing its 11th graders for English assessments.

Interesting findings include that the school shows its most effective performance with economically disadvantaged students, ranking near the state average for that subgroup. While chronic absenteeism is an issue, it is comparable to other local schools like Orange Glen High that have higher academic outcomes, suggesting other factors are at play. The school's small size leads to volatile year-to-year metrics, but its structure may allow for targeted support for its vulnerable student population within a highly varied educational landscape.

Open Quote Because of Audeo Charter school 111 and the staff there, my son is going to school instead of dropping out. He is academically ahead of his peers but was bullied and depressed and gave up. For years I fought, begged and pleaded with the school district to help me and they did nothing but ignore or deny the problems. We found out about Audeo and enrolled immediately. The staff at Audeo Charter School 111 has been amazing and go above and beyond. They work with my son one to one or small groups. They support and teach him via phone and internet all through the pandemic. They work with his education based on his individual level. My only regret is not discovering them sooner. The district sure didn't volunteer the information even when repeatedly asked for other options or alternatives. It was a chance discovery. My son has been a student there for almost a year and a half. I cannot say enough or express my gratitude deeply enough. Close Quote
