Summary

Harding University Partnership is a public elementary school (grades K-6) serving 364 students in the Santa Barbara Unified School District, and it stands out as a remarkable success story of improvement, having climbed from the bottom quartile of state rankings a decade ago to now performing above average.

The school excels in several key areas, particularly given that it serves a high-need community. Its mathematics proficiency exceeds both district and state averages, and it has achieved an impressively low chronic absenteeism rate of 13.9%, which is much better than the district average. Harding shows exceptional strength in supporting specific student groups, such as English Language Learners and homeless students, outperforming many nearby schools with similar demographics like McKinley Elementary. While its overall academic performance is now comparable to schools like Monroe Elementary, its dramatic upward trajectory is unique.

When compared to other local options, Harding's story is compelling. It performs comparably to Adelante Charter, which serves a similar student population, though it trails higher-spending schools like Hope Elementary in a different district. While challenges remain, such as science scores lagging behind strong performers like Washington Elementary, Harding's consistent gains and effective support systems make it a standout choice for families in Santa Barbara.

Open Quote Harding is an excellent school. Standardized tests do not tell the whole story. Harding has an excellent curriculum (including the Literacy Collaborative!), highly skilled and devoted teachers, and a wonderful student body. I'm very skeptical of how this site is ranking schools, this site is certainly no reflection of the level of education provided at Harding and is serving only to promote self segregation. Open Quote I love Harding Elementary. The teachers are excellent and the principle is fantastic. She is passionate about the school and the kids. We are new this year and we couldn't be happier. My son who is advanced is being challenged, my son who struggles with reading is getting all the help he needs (and has improved a ton). We are really impressed. Close Quote
