Summary

Madison Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 476 students in the high-performing Redondo Beach Unified school district, consistently earning a 4-star rating and ranking in the top 15% of all California elementary schools.

Academically, Madison significantly outperforms state averages, with particular strength in science where it even exceeds the district average. However, within its own exceptional district, it is often a middle performer, with English Language Arts scores typically lagging behind other local schools like Birney Elementary and Washington Elementary. The school serves a more economically diverse population than some of its district peers, which is an important context for comparisons. When looking beyond the district, Madison's performance is notably stronger than schools in neighboring districts, such as William Anderson Elementary in the Lawndale Elementary district.

Key strengths include excellent student attendance, with a chronic absenteeism rate far below the state average, indicating strong engagement. Performance for different student groups can vary year-to-year, which the school monitors closely. Overall, parents can be confident that Madison is a very strong school by any statewide measure, benefiting from the resources and curriculum of its top-tier district, even as it faces the challenge of comparison with some of the highest-achieving schools in the state, like those in the Manhattan Beach Unified district.

Open Quote Half of the teachers are lazy the other half are good. Finding the right teacher is hard. Very good principal. About 10% of all parents help the rest complain. All I can say is very lazy teachers that complain about working too much. They should be fired or retire. Close Quote
