Summary:
The three schools in Yreka Union Elementary serve kindergarten through grade 8: Gold Street Elementary serves kindergarten, Evergreen Elementary serves grades 1–4, and Jackson Street Elementary serves grades 5–8. The biggest concern is that both schools with reported 2025–2026 scores fell below state results in English and math: their English results were 25% and 28%, compared with 49% statewide, while their math results were 16% and 33%, compared with 38% statewide. Neither school’s stronger subject or grade-level result reaches the state benchmark.
The schools stand out in different subjects: Jackson Street had the higher all-grades English result, at 28% versus Evergreen at 25%, a 4-point difference; Evergreen led in math, 33% to Jackson’s 16%, a 17-point gap. Jackson’s reported science result was 20%, but there is no other school science score to compare. Gold Street has no test scores reported here, so it cannot be ranked by achievement. SchoolDigger places Jackson at the 16th percentile and Evergreen at the 25th percentile for 2025–2026; the district is at the 10th percentile.
Recent results generally declined, with a sharp drop in Evergreen math: from 55% in 2024–2025 to 33% in 2025–2026, down 21 points. Evergreen English fell 9 points; Jackson math and science fell 5 and 2 points, while its English result rose by less than a point. Jackson’s SchoolDigger percentile ranking has fluctuated—17th, then 23rd, then 16th over the three reported years—rather than showing steady improvement. As context, in 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 73% at Jackson, 74% at Evergreen, and 78% at Gold Street; student-teacher ratios were 14.8, 20.2, and 17.9, respectively. Chronic absenteeism was higher than the state’s 18% at all three schools: 30% at Jackson, 20% at Evergreen, and 24% at Gold Street. Because the schools serve different grades, their overall scores are not a like-for-like comparison.
